As an artist, I receive numerous requests each year for donations of my work
to various charitable organizations. So many, in fact, that I cannot possibly donate
to all of them. I simply cannot afford it. This is my business...my livelihood...and I can't
"giveaway the store".
Most people don't realize that artists, in most cases, cannot take
a tax deduction for the full value of any artwork they donate. Generally, unless very specific
and difficult to obtain information is provided to the IRS, we are allowed only to deduct
the cost of the materials...frame, art supplies, etc. used in THAT particular artwork. Even
this is sometimes hard to document to the satisfaction of the IRS.
Therefore, I have a policy in place with regard to these requests:
•Your group must be recognized by the IRS as a TAX EXEMPT 501(c)(3) organization.
I will need to have that documentation in hand.
•If you meet the above requirement, I will offer almost any (at my discretion) of my work
for purchase to your organization at the following wholesale price:
60% of retail for Limited Edition Prints and 75% of retail for Originals,
plus shipping (as indicated on my online order form).
